Attorney Mark D. Cudney
Mark D. Cudney graduated from the University of Michigan in 1976 with a degree in Zoology. He obtained a Master of Sciences Degree in Entomology in 1979 Magna Cum Laude. He obtained his law degree from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law in 1983 (Traynor Society for Academic Excellence) while working full-time at an environmental consulting firm during the day and attending law school at night.
Mark has practiced family law exclusively for almost thirty years successfully representing hundreds of clients. He became the first State Bar Certified Family Law Specialist in the county in 1993. Mark has served as a temporary judge for over twenty five years in both Sacramento and El Dorado counties.
Mark has continuously been the head of the El Dorado County Family Law Section since the mid 1990’s. He has lectured on numerous topics including recent family law legislation and court decisions, division of retirement plans, and custody/visitation issues.
He served a three year term on the Family law Executive Committee of the State Bar serving as Legislative Chair. He received the El Dorado Style Magazine Readers Choice Award for favorite attorney in 2010 and is in the National Registry of Who’s Who.
Mark has been married to his wife Cori (who is his legal assistant) for 17 years and has three children.

Attorney James L. Gwinup
James L. Gwinup graduated Magna Cum Laude in Business Administration from Pacific Union College. He then attended King Hall (UC Davis School of Law) and was admitted to the State Bar of California. Since that time, James has been practicing exclusively family law in El Dorado, Sacramento, Amador and Placer Counties.
James is a Certified Family Law Specialist and serves as a Temporary Judge in El Dorado County for family law matters.
James provides litigation, mediation and collaborative law services to clients. His practice consists of all areas of family law, including divorce, custody, visitation, child support, spousal support, property division, retirement plans and domestic violence restraining orders. He is a member of the El Dorado County Bar Association and the Sacramento Collaborative Practice Group.James likes to spend his free time in various outdoor sports and activitieswith his children.

Attorney Joseph Hoffman
Joseph Hoffman attended UC Davis from 1987 to 1991, when he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He then attended Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco from 1991-1994. He graduated law school as a member of the Golden Gate School of Law’s Dean’s List.
After passing the bar on his first attempt, he opened the Law Office of Joseph Hoffman in January 1995. After marrying Sheri in 1996, they formed the Law Offices of Hoffman & Hoffman. Joseph is a Certified Family Law Specialist, but even after obtaining his Specialization, he continues to practice in other areas of law, including Business Law, Real Estate Law, Personal Injury and Estate Planning. Joseph is a member of Wealth Counsel.
When Joseph is not working he is usually coaching one of his child’s sporting activities from Soccer to Basketball to Flag Football. He can also be seen spending time on the many bike trails in Sacramento County.

Attorney Sheri Hoffman
Sheri Hoffman attended UC Davis from 1987 to 1991, when she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She then attended Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco from 1991-1994. She graduated Law School as a member of the Golden Gate School of Law’s Dean’s List. Sheri passed the bar on her first attempt.
After marrying Joseph in 1996, they formed the Law Offices of Hoffman & Hoffman. Sheri is a Certified Estate Planning Specialist and a member of Wealth Counsel. Sheri’s practice includes all elements necessary to draft a comprehensive estate plan, regardless of the size of your estate. She is also proficient handling all estate and trust administration after a loved one passes away, whether large or small. Sheri’s practice also includes services in the areas of conservatorships and guardianships.
Outside of the office, Sheri is busy raising her children and volunteering at their school. She raises thousands of dollars each year for school programs to help ensure the children in the community get the best education possible. She also enjoys tennis, golf and spending time outdoors with her family and friends.

Attorney Amanda Berger
Amanda Berger received her Juris Doctorate from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of California. Amanda studied International Law and received her International Legal Studies certificate after studying abroad in Salzburg Austria. Amanda was honored to be taught by Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy in Austria. Prior to joining Hoffman and Hoffman, she obtained her experience and knowledge working with other firms. Amanda received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice at University of Phoenix.
Amanda has been with Hoffman and Hoffman since December 2014, spending much of her time focusing on various family law matters, including: dissolutions, domestic partnerships, legal separation, child custody and visitation, child support modifications, property division matters, spousal support modifications and temporary domestic violence restraining orders. Amanda has found her passion in family law by helping clients walk through difficult times while providing them with legal advice on how to handle their situation. Also, Amanda handles independent adoptions, step-parents adoptions, conservatorships, and temporary guardianships.
Additionally, Amanda is also dedicated to assisting clients with estate planning including drafting of living trust, wills, powers of attorney, advanced health care directives and other important documents, and advising individuals and families on their estate planning needs. Amanda works diligently to create an estate plan that will meet the specific needs of her clients
Amanda has been in the Sacramento area since 2000. She is currently on the board at the Relationship Skills Center, where they assist the community in building and strengthening people’s relationships skills by teaching them effective ways to communicate, engage in conflict management and problem solving. When not spending time with her family, you can find Amanda in the gym working out, outdoors hiking or at the river with her sweet pitbull, Nika.
