Attorney Mark D. Cudney


Mark D. Cudney graduated from the University of Michigan in 1976 with a degree in Zoology. He obtained a Master of Sciences Degree in Entomology in 1979 Magna Cum Laude. He obtained his law degree from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law in 1983 (Traynor Society for Academic Excellence) while working full-time at an environmental consulting firm during the day and attending law school at night.
Mark has practiced family law exclusively for almost thirty years successfully representing hundreds of clients. He became the first State Bar Certified Family Law Specialist in the county in 1993. Mark has served as a temporary judge for over twenty five years in both Sacramento and El Dorado counties.
Mark has continuously been the head of the El Dorado County Family Law Section since the mid 1990’s. He has lectured on numerous topics including recent family law legislation and court decisions, division of retirement plans, and custody/visitation issues.
He served a three year term on the Family law Executive Committee of the State Bar serving as Legislative Chair. He received the El Dorado Style Magazine Readers Choice Award for favorite attorney in 2010 and is in the National Registry of Who’s Who.
Mark has been married to his wife Cori (who is his legal assistant) for 17 years and has three children.

Attorney James L. Gwinup


James L. Gwinup graduated Magna Cum Laude in Business Administration from Pacific Union College. He then attended King Hall (UC Davis School of Law) and was admitted to the State Bar of California. Since that time, James has been practicing exclusively family law in El Dorado, Sacramento, Amador and Placer Counties.
James is a Certified Family Law Specialist and serves as a Temporary Judge in El Dorado County for family law matters.
James provides litigation, mediation and collaborative law services to clients. His practice consists of all areas of family law, including divorce, custody, visitation, child support, spousal support, property division, retirement plans and domestic violence restraining orders. He is a member of the El Dorado County Bar Association and the Sacramento Collaborative Practice Group.James likes to spend his free time in various outdoor sports and activitieswith his children.

John R. Hughes


John R. Hughes has been a Certified Family Law Specialist (CFLS) since 2004. John's practice has been based in El Dorado County since 1996, and he also handles matters in Sacramento, Amador and Placer Counties. John provides litigation, mediation and collaborative law services to clients. His practice consists of all areas of family law, including divorce, property division, custody, visitation, child support, spousal support, and domestic violence restraining orders. As a retired CPA, John is able to apply his financial skills and experience to assist his clients.John is a member and former officer of the El Dorado County Bar Association, John completed his Juris Doctor (J.D.) at U.C. Davis School of Law (King Hall), and was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1996. John graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration from Pacific Union College in 1983. John obtained a California Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in 1986.
John is an avid fisherman, SCUBA diver, motorcycle rider, and an enthusiastic (i.e. high handicap) golfer.
